Carter Morison
My name is Carter Morison, I'm a local of the Airdrie area and a former cadet of the 3016 Calgary Highlanders Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps (RCACC) in Airdrie.
When I was about 12 I was looking for a club to join, and close by was the army cadets. I had many similar interests and as such I spent 7 years with the Airdrie army cadets. Throughout my time with the cadet corp. I was guided and lead by my peers, higher ranking cadets, the officers and staff. I learned fundamental skills that I wouldn’t have learned anywhere else, I was also a shy leader, however the CIC officers saw that I had potential and promoted me into a leadership role in which learned and grew. Leaving cadets I achieved the rank of warrant officer which was only possible by the outstanding support and leadership of the staff and senior cadets. Although I did go on to eventually enlist in the Canadian forces, cadets did not persuade to me, that journey belongs to the future aspirations of any one individual.
The cadet program is by far the top program in Canada, using military structure, leadership, youth development, and a safe and fun environment the program tries to help those who enter it leave becoming better members of society with fundamental life skills. Skills that are useful in any occupation and throughout life. I’d recommend it to anybody and everybody who is between 12-18 years of age.
